I paint primarily in oils on canvas. I am taken by the fantastic aspects of everyday objects, so my paintings heighten those subjects, like apple pie or bees, through the abundant, textural application of paint and the use of bold colours. The subjects are vivid, which reveals their strangeness, and by extension the strangeness of the world in which they exist. I have drawn inspiration from other artists, such as Grant Wood, Jean Miro, Fernand Leger and Odilon Redon, and their bold, joyful use of colour and shape. I'm also attracted to the wit and freedom of graffiti art.
